About the exhibit and Impressionistic Music:

Impressionist painting remains the most attractive period in the history of modern art and the most appreciated by the public. The impressionist style of painting is characterized chiefly by a group of artists working in and around France between 1867 and 1886. Their work became a major influence known as French Impressionism, and would later spread to music.
This summer and fall, thanks to an exclusive loan from the Art Institute of Chicago, the Kimbell Museum of Art plays host to 92 of the most celebrated works by Impressionist painters. The Art Institute’s Impressionist collection has never before left Chicago in such a large group, and it will be shown only at the Kimbell. This is a one time only opportunity to view the works of the Impressionist Masters, as well as participate in scholarly symposiums and lectures.
The exhibit features signature works by Édouard Manet, Edgar Degas, Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Paul Cézanne, Paul Gauguin, Vincent van Gogh, and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec.
The loan of the Art Institute’s collection is possible because of an expansion project with renovations to the galleries and the construction of a new Modern Wing designed by Renzo Piano, the architect recently chosen by the Kimbell to design its own second building. During the renovation, many works had to be moved or put in storage. Relocating the Impressionist collection created a unique opportunity for these great works to be shown outside the Art Institute’s own walls, and the Kimbell was able to seize the moment. Organizers tell us you’ll want to get your tickets early and you’ll want to view this one many times.
Because the French Impressionist movement heavily influenced music composition of the period, this exhibit particularly lends itself to classical music. WRR’s Kevin Pytcher will explore the works of impressionist style composers such as Debussy, Scriabin, Dukas, and Ravel during the exhibition. In addition, WRR will be giving you a chance to win some free tickets to the exhibit. Stay tuned as Kimbell Museum of Art Interim Director Malcolm Warner, and noted Impressionist authority Rick Brettell gives WRR a behind the scenes look at this fascinating exhibition at the Kimbell.

Ticket Window closes Monday at 9 a.m. (central time). Five winners will be chosen at random and will be contacted by phone. Only one registration per person please. Ticket options based on availability.
